SAVAGE

Get the fuck out.

Her words are a punch to the gut, but honestly, can I expect anything else? I left without a word and stayed away for hours. More than just a few, sixteen to be exact. Sixteen fucking hours, I turned my back, I didn’t check in with her—nothing.

This marriage might be fake, but my duty, my promise to protect her wasn’t—isn’t.

“I can’t do that, sweetheart,” I murmur.

She presses her lips together and nods her head once, but she shifts her gaze away and doesn’t make eye contact with me again. That’s fine. She doesn’t need to, but I’m not leaving. No way in fuck, and she’s going to talk to me, even if she’s pissed the fuck off.

“Please tell me what happened, Lucinda. I need to know so that I can call an officer over and he can make a report.”

That gets her attention. She whips her head over, her eyes finding mine and she purses her lips. “Are you fucking kidding me? Is it because you want to know or is it because you’re disappointed he didn’t take me?”

I don’t say anything right away. I watch her for a moment. Waiting to see if I can try to figure out what’s going on inside of her head. I can’t read her, not at all. Lifting my hand, I cup her cheek, or I try, but she jerks away from my touch.

“Lucinda,” I plead. “I don’t know what you’re thinking right now. I’m happy you’re alive, but I don’t know what is going on.”

She leans forward, her eyes narrowed on me, and I realize that even in her anger, she’s downright fucking gorgeous. I shouldn’t think that she’s beautiful right now. My cock shouldn’t twitch at the sight of her in this condition.

“Let me get you something to wear,” I say.

She reaches out, wrapping her hand around my forearm to stop me. “Why? Feeling guilty seeing me naked like this?” she asks.

“Tell me what the fuck you’re talking about, right goddamn now,” I boom.

Her entire body jumps and I fucking hate having to yell at her, but she’s not telling me anything and right now, time is of the essence. Especially if there is DNA to be collected.

“He didn’t fuck me, if that’s what you’re worried about,” she snaps.

“You mean rape,” I grind out.

She shrugs a shoulder. “Is it rape if your own husband sent him over and is giving you to him for some sick BDSM thing? I mean, that’s what’s happening here, right?”

I’m taken aback, so much so that I jerk backward as if her words physically cause my body to move, as if they pushed me. Blinking, I stare at her and I shake my head slowly.

“You can’t believe that, Lucinda. Tell me what the fuck happened.”

“Fine,” she grunts. “Fine. I’ll tell you what happened, but I don’t know why I need to. I know that you’re part of it. Whatever it is you want to do to me, just get it done. I
